ISDE Distributes Food Aid to 1,000 Families in Chakaria, Cox’sBazar

ISDE Bangladesh distributed food assistance among 1,000 vulnerable families in two unions of Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar today, 20 May, as part of a humanitarian support programme funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center of Saudi Arabia.

The day-long distribution was carried out at 9 no Lakkhyarchar Union Parishad and 7 no Surajpur-Manikpur Union Parishad on Wednesday.

Organisers said 500 families in each union received food items under the programme. Indigenous communities, ethnic minority groups and families from different religious backgrounds were also included in the assistance drive.

At Lakkhyarchar Union Parishad, the distribution programme was attended by Union Parishad Secretary Kausar Jannat Kumkum, Panel Chairman Shahidullah, and UP members Sarwar Alam, Nazum Uddin, Nurul Alam and Abu Taher.

Reserved seat women members Rokeya Begum Baby, Sheuly Akter and Sayra Khanam were also present.

At Surajpur-Manikpur Union Parishad, Union Parishad Secretary Erfan Uddin, UP members Abdul Hamid and Manjur Alam attended the distribution programme. Reserved seat women members Khurshida Begum, Saleha Begum and Bosu Rani Swarna were also present.

Local public representatives and officials of the organisation spoke at the events.

They said the initiative was taken to support families facing food shortages and economic hardship. They also said such assistance for helpless and marginalised communities would continue in the future.

ISDE Bangladesh Programme Coordinator Jahangir Alam said, “As part of our social and humanitarian responsibility, we are carrying out food assistance activities in different areas. With the support of the local administration and public representatives, we have been able to reach genuine beneficiaries.”

Beneficiaries expressed satisfaction after receiving the food support.

Sultana Begum, a resident of Lakkhyarchar, said, “It has become very difficult to manage household expenses. This assistance has been very helpful for our family.”

Ranjit Tripura, a beneficiary from Surajpur-Manikpur Union, said, “It is good that people from all communities have received support together. Marginalised people like us have benefited from this.”

ISDE Bangladesh Monitoring Officer Mostak Ahmed, Logistics Coordinator Taj Uddin and Upazila Manager Jalal Uddin were also present.

They said food assistance had earlier been distributed among around 31,000 beneficiaries in remote host communities and Rohingya refugee camps.

“Our volunteers are working relentlessly to ensure transparent and fair distribution of assistance to beneficiaries. Our main goal is to make sure support reaches genuine beneficiaries,” they said.
