ISDE Bangladesh distributes food aid to 1,000 families in coastal Cox’s Bazar

ISDE Bangladesh has distributed food assistance among helpless and low-income families in Kalarmar Chhara Union of Maheshkhali Upazilla in Cox’s Bazar, aiming to ease the suffering of vulnerable coastal communities struggling with economic hardship.

The food distribution programme was held on Thursday, May 21, at the premises of Kalarmar Chhara Government Primary School, where essential food items were handed over to 1,000 families.

The humanitarian initiative is being implemented by ISDE Bangladesh with financial support from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) of Saudi Arabia.

Organizers said the programme primarily targeted poor and vulnerable populations living in remote and coastal regions.

According to the organization, nearly 32,000 beneficiaries, including residents of remote host community areas and Rohingya refugee camps, have already received food assistance under the broader relief initiative.

Several local representatives, educators, journalists, and social figures attended the distribution event.

Among them were Panel Chairman of Kalarmar Chhara Union Parishad Mohammad Ali, Head Teacher of Kalarmar Chhara Government Primary School Aman Ullah, journalist Abdu Rahman, and ISDE Maheshkhali Upazila Manager Monjur Alam.

Officials and volunteers from ISDE Bangladesh, including Programme Coordinator Jahangir Alam, Monitoring Officer Mostak Ahmed, Logistic Coordinator Taj Uddin, Upazila Manager Jalal Uddin, and Sarwar Matobbor, were also present during the programme.

Speaking at the event, Panel Chairman Mohammad Ali said many people in coastal regions are still passing through severe economic difficulties.

“Such assistance programmes create hope among people and provide temporary relief to struggling families,” he said.

Head Teacher Aman Ullah praised the initiative, saying humanitarian organizations and affluent members of society can significantly reduce the suffering of vulnerable people by extending support during difficult times.

ISDE Bangladesh Programme Coordinator Jahangir Alam said the organization is working to ensure that assistance reaches genuine beneficiaries.

He added that the distribution process was completed smoothly with the support of local administration, public representatives, and volunteers.

“We will continue such humanitarian activities in the future as well,” he said.

Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude for the assistance, saying the current market situation has made it difficult to manage household expenses.

Many described the support as a major relief for low-income families trying to survive amid rising living costs.
