A three-day Safeguarding training workshop held at Hotel Saikat Conference Hall, Chittagong on September 7, 2021. ISDE Bangladesh, a non-governmental development organization was organized the raining for its staff members. The training was organized to prevent sexual harassment in the family, society and workplace and ensure a dignified and safe environment for women. The training was concluded by Mahfuza Mala, International Consultant on Gender and Climate Change of WJR, UK and Mithila Haque. ISDE Bangladesh Executive Director S M Nazer Hossain was presided over the workshop. Renown Women’s Rights Activist and President of ADAB Chittagong Jasmine Sultana Paru addressed the inaugural session as guest speaker. ISDE Programme Coordinator Md. Jahangir Alam, Program Coordinator Shampa K. Nahar, Program Manager of Rohingya Response Jasim Uddin Siddique, Program Manager Tajmunnahar Hamid, Training Coordinator Zahurul Islam, Maheshkhali Unit Manager Monjur Alam, Ayesha Jahangir, AR Antra Arju, Rahima Khatun spoken at the sessions.
The workshop discussed in detail the issues related to ensuring safe workplaces for women and children, educational institutions, social environment. In case of sexual harassment and torture, complaints are lodged, complaints are investigated impartially, existing problems are discussed. In addition, a proposal was made to form a women and child protection committee at the central office, unit office and child education center run by the organization, and to formulate guidelines on the activities of the committee. A number of recommendations were also presented, including the formulation of an action plan to address the existing problems and shortcomings.
At the concluding ceremony, S M Nazer Hossain, Executive Director, ISDE Bangladesh, said that ISDE, as a local non-governmental development organization, has been working on various programs to protect the rights of women and children since its inception. ISDE is working to establish a dignified society for women and children. And for this, it is committed to change the society by organizing the citizens with humanistic values who want change in the society. As part of this, the workshop was organized as part of creating a dignified position for children and women in the local society and workplace. Various more meetings, seminars and workshops will be organized to create awareness at the grassroots level for the protection of women and children. In her congratulatory speech, Jasmine Sultana Paru, a renown woman leader, called upon the grassroots to awaken the conscience of the common man for the protection of women and children, to organize the protesting people at all levels of society and to speak out against the abuse. Violence against women has increased as grassroots protests against violence against women have decreased. It cannot be allowed in a civilized society.
It is to be noted that 23 officers and staff of ISDE Bangladesh’s Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar districts participated in the workshop held with the support of UK based International Development Agency (WJR).
