On the occasion of World Remembrance Day 2025 for those killed and injured in road crashes, a human chain at the initiative of private development organisation Steps Towards Development, Policy Influence Group–Chattogram, and CAB Chattogram was held in Chattogram at 3:45 pm on Tuesday, 30 November 2025 in front of the GEC Convention Hall.
With Muhammad Musa Khan, a distinguished columnist and President of Policy Influence Group in the chair, the program was conducted by Raisul Islam, Program Officer of ISDE, solidarity speeches were delivered by CAB Central Committee Vice President S.M. Nazer Hossain, prominent female leader and President of CAB Chattogram Metropolitan Jasmine Sultana Paru, CAB Divisional General Secretary Kazi Iqbal Bahar Chaberi, prominent human rights activist Rotarian S M Aziz, CAB Chattogram Metropolitan Organizational Secretary Jannatul Ferdous, CAB Chattogram Metropolitan Joint Secretary Mohammad Selim Jahangir, Joint Secretary of District Social Entrepreneur Council Mohammad Jane Alam, development worker Yasin Manju, Executive Director of Subojer Jatra Sayera Begum, Nazmul Islam of Protyay Social Development, Aktar Hossain Rana of Banglabandhu Passenger Welfare Organization, CSDF Projec Coordinator Shampa K Nahar, President of Youth CAB Chattogram Metropolitan Abu Hanif Noman, members Faiz Ahmad, Karimul Islam, Md. Speakers at the program said that every year, the number of people affected by road crashes worldwide is continuously increasing, causing long-term grief, loss, and suffering for countless people. On World Remembrance Day, respect is also paid to emergency service workers, police, and healthcare professionals who face the horrific consequences of road accidents every day and play an active role in tackling them. To ensure a reduction in the number of deaths and injuries from road crashes, an appropriate and strong policy and legal framework is necessary.
However, currently, the country lacks comprehensive and effective road safety laws. Therefore, in light of national and global commitments, it is urgent to take strong steps to free the country from the scourge of road crashes by enacting a timely and integrated road safety law. They also demanded that political parties include road safety issues in their manifestos ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election.
The speakers further stated that every year, in addition to over 50 million deaths and hundreds of millions of injuries globally, several million more people fall victim to road crashes.
