Community based Climate Resilience Initiatives in Coastal Areas of Bangladesh’ In Cox’s Bazar coastal areas

ISDE Bangladesh initiated “Community based Climate Resilience Initiatives in Coastal Areas of Bangladesh’ In Cox’s Bazar coastal areas. ISDE developing some self help group who act on reduces the vulnerability on climate change issues through capacity development, awareness raising and alternative livelihood options. The project is started to implement at Coastal part of Chakaria Upazila (sub district) under Cox’s Bazar district with the support from WJR UK. Project staff and others already recruited to implement the project activities.

The Objectives of the project:

  • To build capacity of climate vulnerable people to resolve livelihoods
  • To provide alternative livelihood support to selected climate vulnerable people
  • To build capacity of local government on climate responsive development.

Self help Group based Awareness sessions held at Demusia Union, Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar under “Community based Climate Resilience Initiatives in Coastal Areas of Bangladesh’ Project. ISDE developing some self help groups who act on reduces the vulnerability on climate change issues through capacity development, awareness raising and alternative livelihood options in Southeastern part of Bangladesh.

ISDE Bangladesh’s Training Officer Abdullah Al Fahim, Project Officer Shahidul Islam, Project Officer Sadiya Sultana were conducted the sessions. The session discussed the causes of climate change and how to mitigate the vulnerability. ISDE will conduct a number of sessions and training for the self help group members, community leaders.

Once the groups are formed, the project begin with training on the group dynamics and various techniques involved in managing the group. It organise training to all SHGs. Roles and responsibilities of the groups will be discussed and finalised during these training sessions. ISDE will form 50 SHG in Chakaria Upazila, Cox’s Bazar under this project.
