ISDE’s Seamstress Project visit by WJR team

Since Rohingya Influx August 2017 in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh ISDE Bangladesh has been involved in many humanitarian interventions at the Rohingya camps as well as host communities areas. ISDE established Women Support Center for Adolescent and Women in both Rohingya camps and host communities. Under ISDE’s Women-Adolescent Hub & Psycho social support centers for Rohingya and host community women and adolescents arranged a number of awareness raising sessions on COVID-19, CRC, safeguarding, Gender Based Violence(GBV), climate change, disaster risk reduction, awareness on personal health and hygiene education, gender and women rights. Skill development training are conducted on various trades for alternative livelihood and income earning. Seamstress is one of the component which was trained the women both in Rohingya camps and host community areas.

Ms. Laura Hendy and Mr. Spencer Leland WJR UK has visited ISDE Bangladesh’s Seamstress training phaseout trainees at Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar on last 24th April 2022. They talks with the trainees & their family members and others stakeholders. They are satisfied to see the seamstress phaseout trainees are engaged to earning for their families.

ISDE with the support from Fahim Khaza Foundation USA established Anisa and Rana Skill development Training Centre at Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar district. Under the skill training centre sewing machine was distributed to successfully completed dress making, tailoring, handicrafts, batik and painting training course for the host community and Rohingya refugees’ women at Ukhiya Upazila Cox’s Bazar district.  ISDE trained a total of 500 women and young girls. The course duration is for 03 months.

During the visit ISDE Executive Director S M Nazer Hossain explained the details interventions under the center. Amongst other Programme Coordinator Md Jahangir Alam, Programme Manager Md Jashim Uddin Siddique, Rohingya Response Unit Manager Asif Nor Hasnath also present the visit.
