Moheshkhali Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Cox’s Bazar District Ms. Miki Marma said that Moheshkhali Upazila being a coastal island upazila is inaccessible and always at risk of disaster but deprived of all kinds of public and private facilities. Due to which the disaster affected people in this island upazila are afraid of the any disaster. They are always at risk from various natural disasters like cyclone Mocha and Hamor along with cyclones and floods. Therefore, outside non-governmental development organizations ISDE and BRAC thanked them for coming forward to rehabilitate the people affected by Cyclone Mocha. However, the amount of assistance is so low that it has not been possible to stand by the huge affected people of the entire upazila. Hope to reach the affected people of the whole upazila later and other non-governmental development organizations will also come forward for the welfare of the affected people. The initiative of ISDE is really commendable with the current government’s plan to provide houses to homeless people and create permanent addresses. Expressing gratitude to them for their humanitarian works like rehabilitating people affected by cyclones, building new houses, house renovation, toilets and tube well platforms, requested to implement more such projects.
On May 16, 2024, Moheshkhali made the above comments at an informal ceremony on the occasion of the handover of a new house to Ruby Akhtar in Fakirjun Para of Kalamarchara Union in Moheshkhali Upazila. The house has been handed over as part of the new house handover among the homeless population affected by Cyclone Mocha, in collaboration with BRAC and Australian Aid, initiated by the non-governmental social development organization ISDE Bangladesh.
Kalamarchhara Union Panel Chairman-02 Muhammad Ali, UP Member Mozammel Haque, BRAC HCMP District Coordinator Ajit Nandi, BRAC HCMP Deputy Manager Prashanta Nath, BRAC HCMP Specialist Kazi Asif Mahmud, ISDE Bangladesh Program Coordinator Md Jahangir Alam, Project Officer (Technical) Engineer Maruful Islam, ISDE Moheshkhali Upazila Manager Manjur Alam, Project officer Shahidul Islam and others were present on this occasion.
Speakers in the event said that Moheshkhali Upazila is very vulnerable to any natural disaster due to coastal and remote communication system, but due to difficult communication system, it is difficult to reach the affected people here. There, the non-governmental development agency ISDE has been operating in this remote area for a long time. Such humanitarian aid reaches the actual affected population. Through the project such humanitarian activities have been carried out and a complete house has been gifted within a limited budget. ISDE implemented the program in coordination with local government institutions and public representatives and the actual victims received this assistance, thanks and gratitude to them. However, the number of affected people in Moheshkhali Upazila is very high, so the amount of assistance needs to be increased here.
