End the False Solutions in Energy Sector: Demanding Real Commitment to Renewable Energy in Chattogram

On the occasion of the Global Week of Action (GWA) on Climate Finance and a Fossil-Free Future local Social development organization ISDE Bangladesh, CAB Youth Group Chattogram City unit, CLEAN and BWGED, staged a protest in Bahaddarhat Police Box, Chattogram on 15^th September 2024. This rally protest sought to bring attention to the dangers posed by fossil fuel investments, which continue to threaten both the environment and communities. The protestors called for an end to “False Solutions” such as LNG, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture Storage, which they argue only perpetuate environmental degradation.

CAB Central Vice President and Executive Director of ISDE Bangladesh S M Nazer Hossain said that we must dismantle the false narratives surrounding fossil fuel investments and focus on creating a truly sustainable future. Our voices will ensure that policymakers and financiers take the necessary steps to divest from harmful industries

Protestors urged governments and financial institutions to reject fossil fuel-based solutions like carbon capture and LNG and instead focus on renewable energy that benefits both the environment and communities. Amongst others Central member of Bangladesh Fruits and Vegetable Exporters Association Md Selim Jahangir, joint Secretary, Jela Social Entrepreneur Council Md Jane Alam, CAB Youth Group President Abu Hanif Noman, Member Rasel Uddin, Emdadul Hoque Ayaz, Sidratul Munthaha, Md Eshraful Hoque Chy, Ridwanul Hoque, President Bahddarhat United Business Council Omar Faroque, Member Mizanur Rahman also spoke on the protest rally.
